It is my great pleasure to finally get to share the essay I wrote about my mom for Listen To Your Mother, Austin. You can read it in its entirety on The Mid. Somehow I missed the original posting (and that should tell you how crazy my life has been lately) but better late than never, right? Such a great honor to have the essay posted on a site I like so well!
Please go give The Mid and my mother some love…

Lane,
Firstly, thank you so much for telling us about this great woman. As a baseball fan, I am outraged that the recruiter was so small-minded that he robbed the fans of the game of a possible star. What one is smuggling in their shorts has nothing to do with the ability to throw, catch, hit the ball or get into position to snag a pop-fly. I’m sorry we never got to see her play. Who knows? Maybe with a good coach and trainer, she could have worn Yankee pin-stripes one day, and maybe even made it to Cooperstown. I’m glad your kid is carrying on his grandmother’s legacy on the field.
